The register, prepared
Everything on this site is free to read. What is sold is the work of turning a free-text activity column into numbered ERA codes, and of keeping the difference between one collection and the next.
The pages of this site are free and will stay free : an official fact belongs to no one. What is sold here is the compilation work — extracting the Queensland environmental authority register, reconciling it, dating it, and delivering it in a usable form.
What is worth buying is the flow, not the stock
The register publishes the position today. What it does not publish is what changed — an authority that went from granted to suspended, or from suspended to cancelled. Each publication replaces the last.
We keep every collection. From the first, on 2026-08-19, each is compared with the previous and the differences kept. On a register where 45.7% is already no longer in effect, the transitions are the interesting part.
⚠️ We publish no monthly rate of new authorities. The file carries an effective date, but that is when a permit took effect, not when it entered the register or changed status — inferring a rate from it would be an inference, not a measurement.
- Change feed — AUD 170 / monthOr AUD 1 700 a year. At every collection, what came in, went out or changed since the previous one. This is the part that does not age.
- One slice — AUD 50 / monthThe feed restricted to a single industry or ERA code, for those who do not need the rest.
- Full snapshot — AUD 2 200, onceThe state of the register on the day of delivery, every field included. Listed last on purpose : a snapshot ages.
What you get, field by field
| Field | Description | Filled |
|---|---|---|

holder | Permit holder as recorded. | 100.0 % |
status | Granted, surrendered, cancelled, suspended, expired, disclaimed, granted-not-effective. | 100.0 % |
in_effect | ⚠️ A single boolean derived from the status — the answer most people actually want. | 100.0 % |
permit_type | Resource activity or prescribed ERA. | 100.0 % |
condition_type | Standard, site-specific or variation. | 89.3 % |
industry | One of 23 classifications. | 100.0 % |
effective_date | When the authority took effect. | 93.0 % |
era_codes | ⚠️ Every ERA number the authority covers, extracted from the free-text activity description and normalised. | 38.0 % |
era_names | ⚠️ The activity name for each code. | 38.0 % |
n_eras | ⚠️ How many, for sorting and filtering. | 100.0 % |
one_row_per_authority | ⚠️ Deduplicated to one row per reference. | 100.0 % |
The 5 fields marked ⚠️ do not exist in the source : we add them — a join, a normalisation, or a reconstructed history. That is the part a buyer cannot reproduce by downloading the official file.
The marked fields are the reason to buy rather than fetch. The source ships
the activities as one free-text string — ERA 57 - Regulated Waste
Transport, 2: Transporting regulated waste, other than tyres, in, (b) 6 to 35
vehicles — and nothing in the file lets you filter by activity number.
Pulling the 63 codes out of it, and deriving a single in-effect flag from seven
statuses, is the work.
What is not in this dataset, and not on this site:
the Locations column. Its median length is nine characters and its
typical content is a mining tenement code — but 264 rows carry a street
address, and 23.6% of holders show no company marker at all. A column unusable
for 98% of rows and risky for the rest does not get published or sold.
